Barbell Shrugs, as well as Upright Rows, are one of the best helpers in creating hefty traps. So if you need to make your shoulders more definite and ring some volume to your traps, heavy barbell shrugs is “just what the doctor ordered”.
If along with shoulders and traps you need to thicken your neck, it will be upright to mix barbell shrugs with upright rows. The heavier the weight, the more efficient is barbell shrugs. With your strength growing you will be ale to use exceedingly heavy weights and your muscles will become really breathtaking.
You can use both barbell or dumbbells to add volume to the traps. The difference between the barbell and dumbbell shrugs is that the last one provide better range of motion. But still the final choice is up to you.
Barbell Shrugs Performing
Steps to do the exercise are the following:
Initial position is upright, hands on sides. You should have a dumbbell or a barbell in your hands.
Then raise your hands the way your shoulders come as close to your ears as possible. Watch your elbows – it shouldn’t be bent.
After some contraction free and return to the initial position.
While exercises don’t forget to exhale on the heaviest point of the exercise. Try to make the full range with your shoulders as high as possible. It’s preferable not to move the rest of the body while shoulders are working.
